Test Fest is a new Basement Theatre initiative supporting independent artists in Tāmaki Makaurau, providing a platform to perform experimental works-in-progress without the pressure of polish or commercial expectation.
The concept centres on the crash test dummy as a metaphor for experimentation, trial and error, risk and discovery. Just as crash tests deliberately push something to its limits, Test Fest creates a space for artists to test ideas, challenge boundaries and discover what resonates.
Created as a bespoke 3D asset, the crash test dummy cuts through the noise of traditional theatre promotion. Force-justified monospace typography and a high-contrast yellow and black palette complement its utilitarian aesthetic, creating a flexible identity system that can evolve with the festival while remaining instantly recognisable.
